Why is the filter cake too wet?

Why has my filter press cycle time increased?

Rising cycle time at constant feed pressure and constant slurry is the classic signature of cloth blinding. Filtrate flow drops because the open area of the weave is progressively plugged with fines, scale, oil, or biological growth.

Confirm it by comparing filtrate volume in the first five minutes against your commissioning baseline. If early filtrate has fallen sharply but late-cycle behaviour looks normal, the cloth is the constraint. Wash it — an acid wash for carbonate scale, caustic or hot-water wash for organics — and re-measure. If washing recovers most of the original flow, schedule regular washing.
