A chamber or membrane filter press dewaters palm oil mill effluent (POME) sludge from 4 to 6% solids to a 55 to 65% moisture cake in 2 to 3 hour cycles. A 60 t FFB/h mill typically needs 150 to 250 m² of filter area with 1000 to 1250 mm PP plates rated to 90 °C and monofilament PP cloth.
A filter press for lithium battery slurry and black mass recycling uses 800 to 1500 mm PP or glass-reinforced PP plates, membrane squeeze at 1.5 to 2.0 MPa and an enclosed design. It dewaters leach residue and lithium carbonate to 15 to 25% moisture in 40 to 90 minute cycles, with acid-resistant plates rated to 90 or 120 °C.
Cake moisture below 30% is achievable on mineral concentrate and many chemical slurries using membrane squeeze at 1.5 to 2.0 MPa, air blow-through at 0.4 to 0.7 MPa, a feed pressure ramp to 1.0 to 1.6 MPa, correct cloth selection and optimised flocculant dosing. Municipal sludge rarely goes below 55 to 60% on any filter press.
A filter press dewaters the fine fraction of bentonite slurry from TBM tunnelling, pile-driving, and drilling mud operations to roughly 40-55% moisture cake, after an upstream slurry separation plant removes coarse spoil by screening and hydrocycloning.
A filter press dewaters electroplating heavy-metal hydroxide sludge (nickel, chromium, copper, zinc) to 65-75% moisture on a chamber press or 55-65% on a membrane press, cutting hazardous waste disposal volume by half or more compared to undewatered thickened sludge.
A pharmaceutical filter press supports GMP-oriented processing through SS304/SS316 wetted parts, closed or enclosed cake discharge, and crevice-free surfaces for cleaning validation, used for API filtration, herbal extract clarification, and activated carbon removal.
