Shrimp farm and RAS pond sludge is dilute (0.5-5% solids) and needs thickening before a filter press can dewater it into a transportable cake, often reused as fertilizer or compost. Plate-and-frame and chamber presses are both used depending on farm scale.
Filter cloth typically lasts thousands of cycles depending on application; membrane diaphragms can reach up to 8,000 cycles with proper maintenance. Removable rubber diaphragms cost less to replace than welded membrane plates. Stock cloth, gaskets, and one spare diaphragm before your press ever goes down.
Ceramic tile plants use filter presses to recover clay slip and glaze solids from wash-down water, generating roughly 10 tons of sludge per 100,000 m2 of tiles produced. The dried cake can be reincorporated into tile body mix at 5-50%, cutting both waste disposal and raw material cost.
Industrial filter presses typically draw 1.5-7.5 kW on small-to-mid units and up to 15 kW+ on large mining/municipal presses, mostly from the hydraulic pump and feed pump (50-70% of total draw). Expect roughly 5-15 kWh per ton of dry solids processed.
